Creative Writing Workshop with Cécile Duquenne
Cécile Duquenne has published more than twenty science fiction and fantasy books. In 2019, she founded her own online creative writing school L’école d’écriture 2.0. Her literary series Les Brigades du Steam is currently being adapted into a role-playing game.
She also holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from the Université Aix-Marseille. Her thesis focuses on the dialogue between French and Japanese literature following the Fukushima accident and analyzes the challenges we face in a world on the cusp of environmental disaster.
Cécile Duquenne would lead one of the sessions of FR1022 Creative Writing Workshop. She will examine the many ways literature can make a tangible impact on local and global politics, with a focus on French “littératures de l’imaginaire” (fantasy, science-fiction, young adult). Students would write a 500-750 word letter in French, about how their character decided or was forced to go abroad, describing their experience of exile into another society, followed by a Q&A session with the author.
