Jonathan originally hails from sunny Brisbane, Australia, and graduated with an honors degree in French linguistics (with minors in Classics and International Relations) from the University of Queensland in 2012. He then completed his M.A. in French Language and Literature from Miami University in Ohio in 2015, after which he spent a year in France as a lecteur d’anglais, where he taught spoken English at the Université de Nantes. He is currently finishing his Ph.D. in Film Studies with a concentration in French, writing on the topic of (re)animation and archives with a dissertation titled "From Paintings to Pornography: (Re-)Animating Archives in French Documentary." He regularly presents his work at academic conferences, including the Northeast Modern Language Association and the Society of Cinema and Media Studies conferences. He published an article on trans* representation in documentary cinema in French Screen Studies, and is working on an article on Agnès Varda's final film. He has taught a wide variety of French language courses at all levels, as well as courses in Film and Media Studies and in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. Jonathan defended his PhD in fall term 2022.
