Spencer Fricard
Spencer is a French PhD student with a certificate in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. Their dissertation project explores the relationship between silence and metamorphoses in contemporary queer visual productions (films, series, web-series, graphic novels). Taking LGBT+ activism in France in the 70s-80s as a starting point, Spencer explores the evolving representations, discourses and lack thereof, surrounding francophone queerness to better understand its contemporary manifestations in the works of Nina Bouraoui, Julia Ducournau, Yann Gonzalez, Loo Hui Phang, and Quentin Zuttion. Their work puts in question the possible limitations of discourse(s) surrounding queer identities and sexualities in the 21st century.
