We stand in love and solidarity with our trans, non-binary and gender diverse students, staff and faculty, who are a vital part of our department and of the University. We condemn anti-trans hate mongering and bigotry. We are shamed and angered that Pitt will be the venue for upcoming anti-trans events and we call on the University of Pittsburgh to oppose this amplification of anti-trans hate speech and to assure a safe, non-hostile and harassment-free work and learning environment for us all.
The lives of trans people aren’t up for debate. Trans people’s belonging to and participation in all elements of life at Pitt is not up for debate. We will not countenance putting the existence of any of our students, staff or faculty up for debate—and neither should the University of Pittsburgh.
We support and subscribe to the statement from Pitt Queer Professionals, which informs our FRIT response.
