Teaching Certification in French and Italian
The University of Pittsburgh believes that you need to master your content area of Italian or French during undergraduate education before learning how to teach your subject to students. Then after graduating, you'll enter the Pitt School of Education and immerse yourself in an intensive year of study while earning a degree that's focused on the art and science of teaching your subject. From the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree to Professional Year (PY) Certification and the dual certification MOSAIC program, we offer numerous degree and certificate programs to help you achieve your goals to teach and lead. Please take a look at the School of Education foreign language education page for more information.
Prior to applying, be sure to:
- get in touch with the School of Education admissions staff to confirm whether your undergraduate courses align with the prerequisites required for entry into the graduate program.
- look into the teacher education minor, as the courses included provide the opportunity to make progress toward the required prerequisites for the secondary teacher certification programs.
- attend a teacher education information session to get more details.
As you prepare for an application to the School of Education, it is also important to keep in mind that employment opportunities can vary by region and across languages of instruction, so please feel free to talk with the Office of Admissions and Enrollment Services about such opportunities in advance. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact SOE admissions directly at soeinfo@pitt.edu or 412-648-2230.
