Hyunjin Kim specializes in 20th &21st century French and Francophone cinema, especially their presentation of corporeality and nonhumanness. In July 2024, she successfully defended her dissertation, “From Méliès to Ducournau: Transhumanist Bodies in French Cinema.” It studies transhumanism within the context of French cinema, which has actively explored nonhuman bodies since the early films of Georges Méliès. Her article on Ducournau’s Titane is published in the peer-reviewed journal Études Francophones, and she is currently working on a publication of her chapter on the films of Méliès, in another peer-reviewed journal Early Popular Visual Culture.
