Julius Aderogba Odewabi is a PhD student in French who is pursuing certificates in Film and Media Studies and Africana Studies. His MA thesis work titled “Zadi’s Series En Place: Rewriting the Discourse on Banlieue Politics” demonstrates how Jean Pascal Zadi's television series addresses political stereotypes of the Banlieue by redefining its image and on the other hand, acknowledges circumstances in which these clichés may ring true through the use of self- deprecation and self-criticism.
Julius completed his undergraduate studies in French at the Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria. He then proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he obtained his first MA degree and graduated with distinction. He earned his second MA in French and Francophone Studies at the University of Florida where he developed an interest in Francophone Films and Cinema. His research interest is Contemporary Francophone Literature and Cinema, focusing on Sub-Sahara Africa. He is also interested in Migration discourse, Diasporic studies, and Suburban and Post-Colonial cinema.
