Prof. Flavia Cavaliere to teach new course as Fulbright Distinguished Lecturer
We’re delighted to welcome Prof. Flavia Cavaliere of the Università di Napoli—Federico II to the Department of French & Italian during the spring 2022 term. Prof. Cavaliere, a scholar of translation in the cultural spaces between Italy and the US, will teach a “Representing Italy in English-language Media” version of ITAL 1078: Fulbright Seminar in Italian Studies, on TTh at 2:30pm.

Prof. Reeser receives Fellowship in Strasbourg
Congratulations to Dept. Chair Prof. Todd Reeser who received a USIAS fellowship at the University of Strasbourg, France, for spring term 2022.
He will be in residence in the Alsatian capital and will join a 'research team' called "SAGE" [Sociétés, Acteurs, Gouvernement en Europe].

Tenure-Track Position Available: Francophone Studies (Black Africa/Black Diaspora)
Our department seeks to hire an Assistant Professor of French in the area of Black African Studies:
The Department of French and Italian at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a tenure-stream assistant professor with a specialization in Francophone sub-Saharan Africa and / or the Black diaspora, including France and Europe. The teaching load is four courses per year at the graduate and undergraduate level. Pending budgetary approval, the position will begin in fall 2022.

Congratulations to Pat Nikiema on his appointment as tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Miami in Florida! Pat recently defended his doctoral dissertation on "return" in Francophone literature. We are so proud of you!

Renate Blumenfeld-Kosinski Paper Prize
Congratulations to French major Hannah Heisler who is the inaugural recipient of the Renate Blumenfeld-Kosinski Paper Prize in French. Hannah's winning submission, titled Réflexions sur une vie, is a portfolio piece that explores life experiences through different writing genres and various linguistic conventions.
